Amaterasu embodies the levity that brings us out of the darkness and shows us the beauty of our light. Amaterasu is the most powerful deity in the Shinto religion. The oldest legends of Amaterasu date back to the 8th Century and come from the Kojiki, or the Japanese record of ancient matters. In Shinto, kami are spirits of deities. Goddess Amaterasu was known for falling in love with her reflection and finding her light. The moral of her story is that when we hide our light, we aren't the only ones left in the dark. We take our light from the ones who love us as well. I was inspired to capture the light of the goddess with a rainbow spectrum of colours radiating from the aura. I used a mixture of rainbow watercolors instead of the godesses' natural hair color for creative effect. I also used masking fluid and a layering technique with the watercolours to build up soft layers of colour.

Originally, the artwork was created with high-quality, professional Winsor & Newton watercolours onto cold-pressed cotton watercolour paper.
My designs are professionally printed onto either Matte High Res 230 GSM photo inkjet paper or 100% cotton smooth fine art inkjet Giclée paper with a fine velvet surface and a luxurious feel. The print comes unmounted and unframed, ready for you to add a mount and frame of your choice.

All my prints come packaged in a tube, Please be aware that all A4 prints come with a 3mm border unless you specify otherwise.
